Guest post at OSK
Kae asked me to write a guest post for Ocean, Sky and Khaki; a site set up to provide information to people interested in sending care packages to deployed soldiers. It is a great idea, and a great way of showing your support for those Australians a long way from home in harm’s way. The post can be found here if you’re interested.

"Australian soldiers are nothing if not sticklers for the rules".
Which Army are you serving in? That's not the Australian Army I remember.
My first boyfriend a hundred years ago was in the army, and I don't recall him being too fussy about the rules.
I do recall he was a ratbag and a larrikin, though.
I couldn't go and suggest that people encourage soldiers to break the RULES. Rules are there for a reason etc, yadda yadda, etc.
Richard, I am - last time I checked - still the #1 Australian supporter of Gina Elise at Pinups for Vets. I did approach DOD about sending Gina's calendars to the Australian troops abroad. The response was, basically, great idea, thanks for the offer, but no thanks.
Would I have any better luck sending the calendars through these channels? One reason for turning me down, BION, was that the calendar might offend religious sensibilities in the host countries. If they can survive the presence of FHM I daresay a pinup calendar wouldn't do too much harm.
Gregory, if you pack a calendar in a care package, I don't see any problem with it going through.
I've sent FHM through without complaint.
Greg, if you put it in a parcel, it will get through. It would then be up to the guys over there to decide where to hang it up. In their own accomodation would be OK. Anywhere locals might go or where female soldiers would see it would probably see them taken down.
Such is life in the new army.
Suppose I just send five calendars in BM box as described at OSK. How will they be distributed? Will a riot break out?
Hi Gregory
They'd all go to the same place...you might be able to post them as single parcels labelled to An Australian Soldier, but I'd separate the sending by a week or so... or send them to someone who alredy sends out parcels to enclose in their parcels with the other goodies they send?
How much does one weigh?
Kae, according to my kitchen scales the calendar weighs about 175 grams.
They fit neatly into a C4 envelope even with a sheet of cardboard to reduce bend damage.
I might try that suggestion. I'd forward them through 39 Personnel Support Battalion but I can't find an address on the net.
News just in - there is a Pinups For Vets calendar in the works for 2010.
We'll see how the system works, eh?
